VOIGTLANDERPROMINENT II with Super-Fast NOKTON f1.5 – Boxed
The 35mmProminent was one of the best quality rangefinder cameras ever made &was designed to rival the Leica & the Contax. It had an advantageover them because it had a leaf shutter & so could use fill-inflash with synchronisation at all speeds.
TheProminent was developed from 1951 to 1958, & evolved into sixvariants. The first five are called the Prominent I.Type 1 Compur Rapid shutter, clip-on accessory shoe, knob wind (1951)Type 2 Upgrade to Synchro Compur (1951)Type 3 Fixed accessory shoe added (1954)Type 4 Lever wind added (1956)Type 5 Bright line multi frame viewfinder added (1957)ProminentII (1958)
This camerahas the serial no. B73692 & is an early Prominent II. Around 5500of this model were made. Film transport is lever wind. The brightlineviewfinder is clear & bright, & the coupled rangefinder isaccurate.
The shutteris a Synchro Compur, speeded 1-500. It runs sweetly at all speeds asdoes the delayed action. It features Voigtlanders unique doubleset of shutter blades for extra light-tightness when changing lenses.(If you look inside the camera you will see the inner blades opengently as the shutter button is pressed, before the main blades firecrisply clever!).
The lens isthe uncommon super-fast Nokton 50mm f1.5, (no.4675197). The iris isfree from grease & works well.
LENSFAULTS. There are signs of a balsam fault around the front lens set.There are minor cleaning marks to the front coating. Looking fromthe rear of the lens these faults are hardly visible & it shouldstill take good photos. See the photos.
Cosmeticallythis camera is in near mint condition. It comes with its case &decorative Voigtlander box.
