A Phenix DC303N K-Mount 35mm SLR, with a Phenix 50mm F/1.7 prime lens.  A well specified and solidly built fully mechanical camera, also sold as the Vivitar V3800N. It has a vertical metal shutter, depth of field preview, flash terminal and a multiple exposure button. The flash synch speed is a useful 1/125 sec. A very usable camera, if you want to try film photography you could do an awful lot worse, and pay an awful lot more.

The camera is in working order and good cosmetic condition with signs of light use, no scratches or dents, but numbers have been engraved on the baseplate and pentaprism housing as pictured – perhaps it was a college camera? Although it has clearly not seen much use. The light seals and mirror are OK. The self timer DOES NOT WORK on this example.

The exposure metering is via LED’s in the finder, actuated by half pressing the shutter or pressing the small button on the lens mount. I’ve tested it against my digital meter and found that it overexposes by one stop, very common in older cameras. This would be fine for print film but it can easily be corrected by setting the ISO one stop fast, for example for 200 ISO film, set it to 400 ISO.

The vertical metal shutter works on all speeds and the slow speeds sound fine. The excellent finder and screen are bright and very clean. Film advance and rewind and the frame counter all work properly. The depth of field preview, multiple exposure button, flash shoe and terminals all function correctly.

The Phenix lens is in great condition with no sign of coating damage, fungus or haze. Focus is smooth and the aperture snappy. A small amount of internal dust is present, typical of an older lens and most unlikely to affect image quality. There is a tiny dent in the filter ring near the number 52 (last picture), not affecting mounting filters.

With its original shoulder strap, third party lens cap and a 52mm skylight filter.

Please note: I only post to the UK, EU and via Ebay Global Shipping to included countries.
