ZEISS IKON CONTAX II Camera 1940/42. I selling this on behalf of a family member whos father worked professionally as a photographer during WW2 and the 50s,60s & 70s. Although a photographer myself I have little knowledge of this breed of camera other than it was a respected brand and model of its time. The serial number dates it to 1940/42. The removable back has a different number which I understand is quite common – this number dates the back to 1937. Interestingly there is also a date pencilled inside the back 9-2-55, Im going to stab a guess as to possibly when it had a service? Overall the camera is in reasonable condition but by no means perfect. The back does have the infamous Zeiss bumps. Quite simply this camera would have seen a lot of use professionally therefore it has character shall we say. I havent properly tested all of its functionality as I dont really know how it works. But the back removes ok, the lens removes ok and all the dials move. Im trying to be as transparent as possible. There is also the original case, but this has seen better days. Ive researched the going rate of these cameras and Im going to start the auction at lower than market value to reflect its condition.
