This is a Prominent rangefinder camera made by Voigtlander AG in Braunschweig, Germany between 1952 and 1958. At the time of its release, it was Voigtlnders top of the range 35mm camera and was designed to compete with the Leicas of its day.   It has an interchangeable bayonet lens mount, a coincident image coupled rangefinder, a Synchro Compur leaf shutter, and offered a large selection of excellent lenses including the Ultron f/2. This particular camera is in excellent condition and is in full working order.

Cosmetic condition (to be read in conjunction with the photographs)

The leather on the body of the camera is in excellent condition with no missing areas of leather and none of the normal signs of wear and tear. The satin chrome finishes are excellent throughout. The black painted frames to the leather are in very good shape with no paint loss evident. The interior of the camera is in unmarked. The lens mount and shutter face are excellent and the lens barrel is in exceptional condition.

Operational Condition

The rangefinder is fully operational and gives a clear image. Focussing works well and the aperture opens and closes smoothly. The camera is fitted with the top of the range Synchro-Compur shutter which fires at all speeds. Timing feels right at all speeds but will need to be checked if you intend to use this camera.  The lens is a Voigtlander Ultron f/2 with a focal length of 50mm. The lens is clear and appears to be free from fungus. The back of the camera clips off smoothly on releasing the locking button. The camera takes 35mm film. Dimensions with the lens in place are 8 x 8.5 x 13.5cm and the camera weighs a substantial 900g.

The camera comes in its original Voigtlander ever ready leather case which is complete but only in fair condition with some broken stitching around the lens cover..

Overall, this is a lovely example of this beautifully made German camera, quite rare in the UK.

This camera has not been tested with film and as with any camera of this age it would probably benefit from a general mechanical service if you intend to use it. I check all lenses for fungus as best I can, but do not guarantee that any lens is entirely fungus free. I recommend having any lens professionally cleaned if you intend to use the camera. Due to the age of this camera it is being sold as seen without warranty.

This camera will be sent fully insured by eBay Shutl. The price you see is a contribution to this cost.
