Vintage Zenit E slr with Industar 50-2 f3.5 50mm lens in full working order. A good starter if you are getting into film photography for learning the basics

This classic single lens reflex camera of its time from Russia comes with one of the smallest standard lens for 35mm cameras which widely sought after for use with modern mirrorless cameras with suitable adaptors.

Built in Russia the camera was built along the lines of simplicity so that there was less to go wrong which seems to have worked with the number of these cameras that still exist to this day. When compared to the new plastic Lomography cameras that are appearing the Zenit E still beats them hands down.

The body is in very good condition apart from minor wear on the paint work and minor tarnishing of the metal work as is commensurate with a camera of this age.

The battery free exposure meter does work although the arrow is not as easy to see as it may one time have been. The meter is separate to the camera system so you have to transfer the indicated aperture and shutter speed to the camera and lens. It is fairly obvious once you see what is required.

The aperture which is on the front of the lens has no stops but is nice and smooth.

Focusing is easy and generally smooth with nothing needing forced. Slight rubbing at one position but doesn’t affect use of lens in anyway.

Shutter speeds work as they should as does the self timer.

The camera has a cold shoe for mounting flash units with flash sync above the self timer which works when tested.

Internally the camera is nice and clean with good seals.

Wind on mechanism working fine.

So grab yourself a bargain and get going with film photography.
