The Leica Standard was a development of the Leica 1 made in the 30’s alongside the Leica II and III rangefinder models.  With their squared-off little telescope of a viewfinder plonked on the top plate with the knobs and dials they do look business like and quite handsome.
Whilst there are plenty of Zorki-based gold plated copies around, they are mostly rangefinder models with the whole of the top plate and rangefinder housing plated and looking as flashy as an oligarch’s cufflinks. Limiting the gold plating to just the detail on this model doesn’t just give it a touch of class, it does look as though it could well be the real thing.  With a high quality Zorki 1e under the black paint, and the superb Leitz -Wetzlar disguised Industar 22 lens under the gold plate on the front, it’s performance will also hive a Leica a run for it’s money.

This little gem is in lovely condition.   I’ve had it on display for nearly 20 years but it is cosmetically as good as when I bought it inside and out. The black paint has one or two tiny chips that do not really show in the photo’s and their is a little tarnishing on the film winder knobs that is also difficult to see.  The vulcanite is intact and as new.

The lens barrel has little evidence of any wear, and apart from the usual cleaning marks and a few internal dust specs, the optics remain quite good enough to produce a decent photo.

Mechanically everything works as it should and the shutter snicks like silk at all speeds – although I have no means of testing their accuracy.  Should be OK though.   The shutter curtain is in great condition with no creases or pin holes.

The camera comes with a film take-up spool and a black lens cap with the Leica inscription.  There is also a nice leather case also with ‘Leica’ branded on the snout.

Overall, a delightful little camera to use, display or just wear on special occasions.

I try to give completely honest descriptions of my cameras, but please look at the photo’s and make up your own minds about the condition.
