This “J. Lancaster & Son” “The 1901 B.B. Instantograph Patent” camera is in “as foud” condition.Made by the renowned optician and camera makers J Lancaster and Sons of Birmingham, UK, it is made of mahogany with brass fittings. The camera bears two ivorine plaques, one has “The 1901 B. B. Instantograph Patent” and a makers plaque. There are no major holes to the black leather tapered bellows, that I can find, however, there is a small split to the top covering of leather to the top of the bellows and a little fading, particularly to the edges and folds. I have tried to show the condition in the photographs. The glass plate measures 6 1/2 inches by 4 3/4 inches, which I believe is 1/2 plate size. The wooden body has gained a lovely depth of colour and patina over the years. There are no major chips or splits that I can find, however, there are the usual scuffs and scratches that you would associate with an item of this age.One or two of the bolts appear to be replacements, the rest of the brass work appears to be present and are in working order, however, the camera has had a back added to it, this appears to have been glued in place. The camera extends and folds away, however, the added back prevents the camera folding together as closely as it could.I have tried to show this in the photographs. The lens is missing.
