This antique camera is a Vest Pocket Kodak Autographic, which was made by Eastman Kodak, Rochester, N.Y., USA and was advertised as the “Soldier’s camera” during WWI.

The camera for sale is a rare model in very good condition, dating from 1917 (date based on the patent numbers on the case). It is fitted with a Kodak Bausch & Lomb lens, a 4 speed Kodak ball bearing shutter (1/25, B, T, 1/50) and a five blade iris diaphragm. It would have originally taken Kodak 127 film.

Of course, this camera is over 100 years old, but the shutter speeds, plus apertures are all working correctly. The cameras paintwork is in good condition and has been repainted in places over the many decades. The camera body and bellows are also in good condition (see photos).

The original Kodak leather case is in worn condition, but still protects the camera very well (see photo for further detail). The lens is clear with no major fungus or marks.

This camera is an ‘autographic’ version, which allows the photographer to enter their own notes onto the negative. Comments can be scratched into paper on the back of the film with a stylus and then exposed to the sun and burned onto the negative. The often lost original stylus is present with the camera and in good condition with some wear/paint loss (see photo).

A lovely display piece of real photographic history in very good condition.
