This is a Zenit E camera body made in Moscow by Krasnogorsk Mechanical Factory (KMZ) in 1969. The camera came in either chrome or black finishes at the time and had many changes over its years of production 1965-81. The camera is an early model with leather covering and is in fair cosmetic condition. It is in good working order, but is missing its self timer. Cosmetic condition (to be read in conjunction with the photographs)The leather on the body of the camera is complete but is lifting on the front and side panels. The black paint is in good condition throughout with one or two marks through wear and tear. The satin chrome top plate is excellent. The base plate has some marks and has been fitted with a later tripod mount. The interior of the camera is in excellent condition.
Operational ConditionThe camera is fitted with a focal plane shutter which is fully operational at all speeds. The timing feels right, but will need to be checked if you intend to use this camera. The self timer is missing. The uncoupled selenium light meter has not been tested. The rapid winder works well. The back of the camera clips off smoothly on releasing the locking catch. The camera takes 35mm film. Dimensions are 14 x 9.5 x 5cm and the camera weighs around 695g.
This is a camera body only – it has an M42 mount but no lens is fitted. It comes with an accessory shoe.
Overall this is a good example of this well made Soviet camera which will be fully functional with a little work. This camera has not been tested with film. Any camera of this age would probably benefit from a general mechanical service if you intend to use it. I check all lenses for fungus as best I can, but do not guarantee that any lens is entirely fungus free. I recommend having any lens professionally cleaned if you intend to use the camera. Due to the age of this camera it is being sold as seen without warranty.
