This is a Zorki 4 rangefinder camera made by KMZ in Krasnogorsk, USSR between 1956 and 1973. KMZ was established alongside FED after WW2 using machinery and blueprints from German factories, including Zeiss Ikon, which were overrun by the Red Army. The camera has been given a snakeskin covering and engraved with the Leica logo as well as the Nazi swastika and eagle motif.  The serial number on this camera shows it was made in 1968. The conversion work on the camera was almost certainly carried out at a later date and appears to have been done professionally. Cosmetic condition (to be read in conjunction with the photographs)The body of the camera is in excellent condition with just a few wear and tear marks on the satin chrome base plate. The snakeskin casing is unmarked. I suspect that this is real snakeskin, but please judge for yourself! The black painted surfaces have a few areas of minor rubbing – see photos. The satin chrome top plate is in excellent condition and the fake logo is clear and legible. The interior of the camera is in very good condition. Operational ConditionThe camera appears to be in good working order. Focussing works well and the aperture opens and closes smoothly. The horizontal focal plane shutter fires on all settings.  Both shutter curtains are in excellent condition and move as they should and the self timer is operational. The rangefinder is operational but is slightly out of focus and needs internal adjustment. The lens claims to be a 50mm Summicron f/2.8, but is almost certainly a Soviet copy.  The lens is clear and appears to be free from fungus. The back of the camera slides off smoothly on releasing the two locking wheels. The camera takes 35mm film. Dimensions with the lens in place are 7.5 x 9 x 14cm and the camera weighs 715g. Overall this is an excellent example of a rare Soviet made ‘fake’ Leica. This camera has not been tested with film and as with any camera of this age it would probably benefit from a general mechanical service if you intend to use it. I check all lenses for fungus as best I can, but do not guarantee that any lens is entirely fungus free. I recommend having any lens professionally cleaned if you intend to use the camera. Due to the age of this camera it is being sold as seen without warranty.  This cameras will be sent by Royal Mail 2nd Class Signed for post.
