An original Rolleiflex historic twin lens reflex camera, this first Rolleiflex model was made in Germany around 1930. The serial number is 97234 and the number inside the body is 026749. It’s fully working and was film tested a couple of years ago – I’ve recently re-checked all the functions and everything is fine.
It has a Carl Zeiss Jena 75mm F/4.5 lens S/N 1215412, a Heidoscop Anastigmat F/3.1 viewing lens S/N 98142, a near circular F/4.5-32 aperture, and a Compur shutter with speeds of 1 second to 1/300, B and T. It takes 12 6x6cm exposures on standard 120 roll film respooled on to 620 spools (two supplied). This version has a hinged back.
Condition is excellent for a 90 year old camera, with signs of moderate use, just general edge paint wear and scuffing. There’s a shallow dent to the nameplate above the “X”, otherwise the nameplate is clean and the lettering undamaged. The leatherette covering is well attached. The little taking lens looks OK to the naked eye with no obvious cleaning marks, fungus or balsam separation. An LED torch does reveal minor internal haze and dust, but it seems to give good results as examples attached. The viewing lens condition is similar with no obvious damage.
Focusing is smooth and there is zero to minimal play in the lens board. All shutter speeds are working and the slow speeds sound good. The aperture works correctly and smoothly.
Film advance is by red window, like many of these it has been converted to use 620 film from the original 6 shot 117 – 120 spools will not fit. The ground glass focusing screen is clean and undamaged and the bubble level works. The reflex mirror is in surprisingly good condition after I removed the hood and gave it a light clean, there’s one visible scratch. The folding hood and magnifier work properly. The metal mirror in the hood, which moves to a 45 degree position to give eye level viewing, is tarnished. The film back closes securely.
