A Rolleiflex Automat 3 classic twin lens reflex camera, S/N 1062855. I believe it’s type K4B2, dating from the late 1940’s. It has a Schneider Xenar (Tessar type) taking lens and a Compur Rapid shutter, and takes 12 6x6cm exposures on standard 120 roll film.
I film tested it earlier this year with excellent results. It works perfectly and was a real pleasure to use.
Condition is good with signs of light to moderate use, just minor paint wear and scuffing, no dents or scratches except that the top of the folding hood is slightly depressed, not affecting operation. The leatherette covering has surface wear but it’s well attached. The taking lens looks fine to the naked eye with no obvious cleaning marks, fungus or balsam separation. An LED torch does reveal minor internal haze and dust (last picture, which makes it look a lot worse that it actually is), but it gave excellent results as examples attached.
Focusing is smooth and there is zero to minimal play in the lens board. All shutter speeds are working and the slow speeds sound correct. The aperture works and delay timer both work. It has a non original flash socket which is synchronised for electronic flash.
The film advance mechanism works smoothly and accurately. The ground glass focusing screen is clean and undamaged – a Fresnel screen is provided which brightens the view. It just sits on top of the ground glass and can easily be removed if required. The reflex mirror is in usablecondition after I removed the hood and gave it a light clean, there is one obvious scratch but I would say it is 95% efficient. The folding hood and magnifier work properly as does the eye level mirror. The film back closes securely.
With a third party lens cap and Rollei leather case in good condition except that the perspex rear window is missing, also the front section has been re-attached. The original leather strap is present but I would not trust it in use.
