Here is a RARE VERY EARLY WWII US ARMY SIGNAL CORPS 4×5 GRAFLEX SPEED GRAPHIC in UNTOUCHED CONDITION. While it isn’t overly pretty it no doubt saw some action, possibly in Europe as it pre-dates most of the Pacific war. There is a Signal Corps stamp on the drop bed. It is so early it was made with the shutter speeds plate still on top which was changed in 1942 so the military plates could be placed on top. This camera is equipped with the earliest version black Signal Corps Kodak Supermatic shutter and 1940 Kodak lens.
The rear focal plane shutter works well at all speeds, the curtain material seems fine and not too dry. It sounds nice and snappy in operation at all speeds (a bit slow returning to the last open setting) so will be great with barrel lenses too. The front shutter appears to work properly at all speeds too.
Everything else mechanical appears to work as it should….all movements, focus rack, etc. The Kalart rangefinder works too. The rear ground glass focus screen is in great condition as is the rear focus hood. The bellows looks excellent. Naturally due to the history there is some general body wear!
This is a great opportunity to buy a real piece of WWII history as there’s not that many around anymore, especially early wartime ones in original condition.
