A rarely seen camera , The W.W.Rouch Stereo Patent Portable Field camera of 1885 in Honduras Mahogany with brass fittings of an unusual folding design. The baseboard, in the collapsed position, covers & protects the ground glass focal screen. The baseboard pivots 270 degrees to form the bed for the removable track to which the front lens standard clips in one of three positions depending on which focal length lenses are used. Fine focusing is achieved by the knob on the removable track. The camera is a large 9 x 7in format.The stereo shutter and 2 matching 1/4 plate lenses are unmarked but are in good working order. The shutter has been re-strung and the lens rear optics are clean and clear, both with smooth operating f stop irises. There is a removable septum which can be used also with the large whole plate Rouch lens as it is mounted on a sliding long lens panel for architectural or sill life subjects.The lens can also be used for full plate images if desired. This large lens is engraved,- W.W.Rouch & Co, 180 Strand London No 7611, 8 x 5 Instantaneous Doublet. With good clear optics and smooth f stop iris. Please note , there is a knob at the top side of the camera that screws into a bracket at the rear of the front standard panel which holds the camera together when closed. The leather bellows appear to be light tight even though there is some corner scuffing in places. Unfortunately there is no plate holder with this camera.
