This is a Duo 620 Series II folding camera made by Kodak AG in Germany between 1937 and 1940. The ‘Duo’ name refers to the cameras half frame 4.5 x 6 format, enabling twice as many exposures than the more typical 6 x 9 format. This camera features a Kodak f/3.5 lens in a Compur Rapid shutter, the serial number of which suggests this is a very late model from 1940.  It is in very good cosmetic condition and in working order. Cosmetic condition (to be read in conjunction with the photographs)The leather on the body of the camera is in excellent condition with a little browning due to age on the front and rear of the camera. There is no unevenness beneath the surface of the leather and just a little wear and tear visible on the edges. The Duo 620 logo is embossed on the back of the camera. The chrome and nickel plated surfaces are excellent. The black painted bands around the camera door have suffered a little paint loss and the surround to the twin viewing windows on the back of the camera is showing some corrosion. The interior of the camera is in excellent condition as are the bellows. Operational ConditionThe camera appears to be in good working order. The camera folds out well and clicks into place as it should. The viewfinder presents a clear image. The helical focussing works well and the aperture opens and closes smoothly. The Compur Rapid shutter fires well on most settings but is slow below 1/5th sec and will not cock on 1/500th sec. A shutter service should remedy these problems if you intend to use this camera. The lens is a Kodak Anastigmat f/3.5 with a focal length of 75mm. The lens is clear and appears to be free from fungus. The back of the camera hinges smoothly on releasing the locking clip. The camera takes 620 roll film in a 4.5 x 6cm format. Dimensions when folded are 4 x 9.5 x 12.5cm and the camera weighs 545g. Overall, this is a nice example of this well made German pre-war camera.
This camera has not been tested with film. Any camera of this age would probably benefit from a general mechanical service if you intend to use it. I check all lenses for fungus as best I can, but do not guarantee that any lens is entirely fungus free. I recommend having any lens professionally cleaned if you intend to use the camera. Due to the age of this camera it is being sold as seen without warranty.
