Following the success of the Pentax ME and ME Super, the Pentax MG was launched in 1981. The camera is an aperture priority automatic camera, with an electronic focal plane shutter from 1s to 1/1000, synchronised at 1/100. The shutter curtains are metal and have a vertical movement.
There was no shutter dial, and so the camera doesn’t feature a full manual mode, except for B and 1/100 exposures. The fully working exposure meter is the standard TTL open aperture centre weighted type. It is activated by a slight pressure on the release button.
The Pentax MG has a 0.87x viewfinder, covering 92% of the field. The finder screen is fixed, with a split image image and a micro-prism ring in the centre. The shutter speed chosen by the camera is displayed in the finder.
Fully working and tested, this 1980’s classic is in very good cosmetic condition (see photos). Brand-new batteries are provided for the on-board metering. The lenses and and viewfinder are all clear with only minor bits of dust (no fungus), which won’t impact on your final images.
