A Nikkormat FT classic 35mm SLR, with a Nikkor-H.C 50mm F/2.0 prime lens. This is the first version FT rather than the more common FTN.
The camera works but the exposure metering does not work on this example. I’ve tried a new battery and can’t see anything obviously wrong under the baseplate. It’s perfectly usable as an unmetered mechanical camera. Cosmetic condition is excellent for an early Nikkormat with signs of light use, no obvious dents or scratches apart from a very shallow dent on top of the prism housing and noticeable scuffing on the baseplate.
The metal Copal Square shutter blades look undamaged, all speeds work and the slow speeds sound fine. The focusing screen is bright and clean. Shutter speed is displayed correctly in the finder. The mirror is clean with a couple of very faint cleaning marks. The flash terminals both work. The film advance, frame counter and rewind operate correctly, as do the self timer, mirror lock up and depth of field preview. The mirror bumper and light seals are OK.
The pre-AI lens seems original to this camera. It’s is reasonable external condition consistent with age, with paint wear to edges but no obvious damage. Focus is smooth and light and the 6 blade aperture is snappy and oil free. The filter thread is intact. Optics appear free of scratches and haze, with minimal dust present. There is a small area of coating damage, possibly fungus to the very edge of the front element (last picture). It’s too small to affect image quality and given that the lens is 60 years old it’s unlikely to get much worse in the foreseeable future. I can’t see any fungus on other surfaces.
