A Minolta XG1 manual focus 35mm SLR, with a sharp Vivitar 28-200mm F/3.5-5.3 lens, both in full working order. This nicely made camera operates in either aperture priority automatic or unmetered manual mode, and has a large bright viewfinder with split image rangefinder. It runs off two widely available 1.5V button batteries.
Externally it’s in good condition for its age with signs of moderate use include scuffing to the bright metal, mostly near the strap lugs and on the basepate, also two “Zeiss bumps” on the film door leatherette. The light seals and mirror bumper have been replaced. The shutter operates correctly and the curtains look undamaged. The speed selected by the accurate auto exposure is shown on a scale in viewfinder, which is bright and very clean. I’ve run a scrap film through and the film advance, rewind and frame counter all work properly, as do the self timer and flash shoe.
The Koboron made Vivitar superzoom lens has a good reputation for sharpness for such a wide range zoom, although the minimum focusing distance of 2.5M make it more suitable for outdoor work. There is a macro mode at the 200mm end. In excellent to near mint condition, focus and zoom actions are smooth and progressive. The 6 blade aperture operates correctly and snappily. I can’t see any haze or fungus. There’s a small amount of internal dust, most unlikely to affect image quality.
