Leica MD Scientific & Technical Use Camera W/Base Plate For Data Strip Insertion For sale Leica MD Scientific & Technical Use Camera W/Base Plate For Data Strip Insertion. The serial number of the camera is 1128243. This is an early Leica MD Camera from 1965.The Leica MD Camera was a specialized Camera it was made without a viewfinder and timer for the purpose of scientific and technical use. Only 3216 of these Leica MD Cameras were ever made by Leitz.Only some of the Leica MD Cameras were equipped with a special base plate allowing for the insertion of data or index strips(see 5th & 9th pics above). Data pertaining to the photo could be written on the index strip which was then exposed directly onto the film.The baseplate of the MD can also be interchanged with the baseplate of M3, M2 or M1 Cameras. The shutter speeds are from 1-1/1000+B, the shutter sticks in 1 & 2, it is slow in 1/4, and is working in all other speeds, we are not sure of the accuracy. All in all Camera’s outlook is good with exception to few minor dings on top cover and with brassing and enamel wear here and there. A rare collector’s Leica.
