LEICA Leitz 50mm SUMMICRON Collapsible LTM f2 50/2 Lens w/Caps 1953 Radioactive? This is a very early 1953 LTM Summicron lens, serial #104750. As you can see in the images it is in very fine cosmetic condition for it’s age only showing faint signs of use, etc. Please look at all the photos above in detail. The glass front element is very clean and clear of scratches from cleaning which is common for this lens. Looking through the lens the view is clean and clear. The aperture blades are dry and move freely. Focus is smooth and the rangefinder focusing is tested on a digital Leica and accurate still. If you shine a strong light through the lens you can see faint haze on an inner element surface: this is to be expected in a lens that is almost 70 years old. It is likely caused by a deterioration in the lens coating- or from the migration of the lubricants used int he lens. You would see similar in any lens of this vintage and type if it has not been opened up and professionally cleaned.  There are also some faint marks on the lens barrel.

I am fairly certain this is a lens with radioactive coating of some sort: the glass has an orange/yellow tint that indicates this. I don’t have a way to test so cannot be entirely sure. But I do know other summicron lenses in this range of serial numbers are confirmed to have those coatings.

Hard to find this rare lens in such good condition- the front lens coating are soft and easily damaged. I think you will be very happy with this lens.

Comes with original Leica metal cap in fine condition, Leitz UVa filter and a generic rear cap (new).

IIIG camera pictured is NOT included- but available in my store.

Special Note for Cameras and related items. Please Read:

Please look at the images carefully before you bid. I take many detailed images of each item so you can visually judge the cosmetic condition and see if there is any obvious damage (larger versions of the images are below: scroll down) Cameras and vintage photographic equipment is tested where possible (basically) and briefly described, any faults detected are mentioned: however unless stated no cameras have been tested with film- or professional diagnostic equipment.

Given the advanced age of this gear it is sold AS IS and AS DESCRIBED. I cannot offer any extended warranty on items from my collection that are 30 to 140 years old. Such vintage items are only described and their most basic and important features noted. Tiny imperfections, flaws, specks of dust etc- may occur and not be described or mentioned. Issues that can only be found when film is run through the camera may not show up. Therefore these sales are final- there is no warranty offered.

I will accept returns if the items are significantly different than described- but you must contact me immediately after you receive the goods. Please remember this when you place your bid. Postage is non-refundable and items are returned at the buyers expense.

I am very happy to combine multiple orders into one package to save you money on postage (it saves me time at the post office!). I do not overcharge for postage and there is no handling charge.

I will happily combine postage on multiple items, and answer any questions you may have regarding shipping to your country. I have shipped cameras all over the world and have hundreds of happy customers going back nearly 20 years. This is a hobby only for me but I take care to make sure everything runs smoothly.
