This Folding Klito plate camera is of the type which was popular with serious amateurs before the first world war, and commonly carried on cycles (ie cycle-cameras). The 1/4 plate size (approx 8x11cm) made it relatively compact and light, but it was more versatile than basic Kodak type cameras.The Klito was a popular model, and made in quite a variety of types. This one has a simple 3-speed Ensign Simplex shutter and an F11 max aperture lens, with diaphragm from F11 to F32. It has single extension bellows. The camera has few frills, and works well. The shutter operates OK on all speeds, but is clearly slow on 1/25 (similar to nearly all early pneumatic shutters). The bellows are fine. The glass screen and hood are still on the back and in good shape (the final photo attempts to show the glass through the hood). The viewfinder fitting ideally needs a new mirror, but was not much use even when new (normally the photo was composed on the ground-glass screen). I do not have a spare quarter glass plate holder, but these are easy to obtain as they were made in large numbers. Should you wish to take photographs though you will need to innovate, as glass photographic plates of this size have not been made for many years. Though you could take photographs with this camera, it is sold primarily as an antique collectors item.Please see the photographs, which are part of this description.All the photos are of the camera for sale.
