A GB-Kershaw 630 medium format folding camera. A simple but nicely made British camera from the mid 1950’s, still perfectly usable.
It has an Otar Anastigmat 80mm F/6.3 triplet lens and a flash synchronised Vario shutter with speeds of 1/25, 1/70, 1/200 and B. It takes 12 6x6cm pictures on standard 120 roll film and has a near circular 10 blade aperture. I haven’t film tested it but I’d guess that best results would be by using a small aperture, F/11 or F/16 say.
In full working order and good cosmetic condition with signs of light use as pictured, just light scuffing and pitting of the bright metal here and there, and a very small dent in the top plate, seen near the winding knob in some of the pictures. The viewfinder is bright and clear. The shutter works correctly on its four speeds and the blades move freely and appear clean. The folding mechanism is solid and the leather bellows appear fine with no visible pinholes. The leatherette covering is excellent and fully attached.
The lens is in good condition with no visible fungus, coating damage or haze, although there is probably minimal internal dust, typical of an older lens and most unlikely to affect image quality. The near circular 10 blade aperture operates smoothly down to F/22. Focus action is smooth and usable. The shutter button on these is concealed along the side of the folding door and is easy to miss (arrowed in last picture). The flash terminal works.
The film advance knob turns smoothly – there’s no double exposure prevention so multiple exposures are easy. The film back closes snugly. The red window is clean – it’s advisable to close the sliding cover between shots.
