Ernemann drop plate camera serial no 7039 similar to Ernemann Minor but with controls on the front panel and fitted with the well regarded ‘Universal Aplanat Extra Rapid’ lens, which appears to be in good order with a clean iris. This lens is indicated with apertures from f 8 to f 64 and the focusing mechanism is smooth. Internal drop plate mechanism described below. Very rare and collectable in this form..

The shutter cocking mechanism is below this and this works correctly, there are two shutter release buttons, one for timed and one for ‘B’, they work . There are shutter times on a small round plate but the lever or ‘key’ is absent.

There is a dealer/ plate on the front inscribed TH. PRIESKORN RIGA. Baltic province city ( now Latvia).

Both sides and bottom black covering are in good order, the two reflecting viewfinders are a little tarnished, but the clear glass windows are intact. There is a small metal plate on the top marked 7039 and a small aperture with numbers indicating the plate being in position to be exposed.

Looking inside, there are 12 of 6x9cm metal stacked plate holders with a little surface corrosion on them. There is a sliding mechanism in the front top connected to the slide holder slot with a catch in the back of the camera. This is connected by the sliding strap marked in a photo by the white arrow. When the knob at the top centre of the front panel is pushed it causes the first, then the next 11 slide holders to drop in sequence after exposure assisted by the big spring.

The slide holders have a rod on both sides that engage in the slots in the corner metal plates on both sides just inside the rear door opening, very ingenioius for the time. They then lie flat ready to be removed and the glass slides processed.

The back covering material is in good order and the two door catches and hinges are good.

Sensible offers for this rare camera will be considered.
