Offered is an Ernemann HEAG XIV, made between 1909 and 1918.  This rare camera is one of the few “convertible” combination models ever made, in that it shoots 9×12 cm images on your choice of roll or sheet film.  The rollfilm back is removable, and there’s a dark slide which makes it possible to change formats mid-roll.  Hence the German name “zweifach” (two backs).

This HEAG XIV has a Detectiv Aplanat anastigmat f6.8, 13.5cm lens in an Ernemann Patent shutter.  The shutter is a dial-set, with a fairly unique cocking mechanism:  Twist the entire shutter speed assembly to a pre-set stop position, then fire.  Made in Dresden, Germany.

Condition:  The lens appears free of haze, but has the usual faint cleaning marks typical of 100 year old uncoated lenses.  The shutter fires on all speeds but is not guaranteed to be accurate.  The diaphragm iris appears free of oil.  The bellows are light-tight with the exception of two tiny wear spots (seen in one of the listing photos).  The lensboard opens and closes well.  Note that the rollfilm back is difficult to remove; I chose not to force it off the camera body.
