This stunning Kodak No 3 Model E Folding camera, serial number 39289 – E is in superb condition with light tight supple bellows and in working order but with with one issue. I bought this a year ago and used it with 120 film

(see my old blog post here for results https://fouragesofsand.blogspot.com/2018/11/film-4-respooled-ektar-100-in-kodak-no.html)

then I put it in a glass display case for a year. Taking it out to sell today, I found the shutter fired on all speeds and T and B, but it fired at the same fast speed (1/100th?) on all settings, apart from B and T which worked fine. After a few more tries, everything started working fine again, and I assumed it was just a little “dry” from lack of use, and then I made the first video showing it working. Immediately after, the problem happened again. I realised what was happening: the piston on the right is slow in returning to its correct position, and sometimes doesn’t return without a press on it. It seems that if the piston doesn’t return to its “start” position, its default is to fire on 1/100 on all speeds (apart from B and T which are not affected.)

I then made the second short video showing this happening. I believe this is a very minor issue, perhaps requiring a clean or lubrication, but I really don’t know much about these cameras apart from how to use them, so it’s sold on the understanding that this piston issue will cause problems using the camera until this is resolved.  The camera also fires using an air bulb (not supplied). Comes with original leather case in good condition, see photos. This really is a beautiful piece, and it really shines in good light and the bellows are a lovely colour. I paid 140 for it a year ago, but given the issue above it seems I’m going to have to accept quite a bit less than that…

The shutter type, I believe, identifies this as a very early model, post 1906 and pre 1910, but that’s only my opinion, please do your own research. Any questions, please ask.

Please watch BOTH short videos so that you fully understand what you are getting!  Thank you.

Here’s the link to the first video where it works fine, and below it is the video showing the problem.  You will need to copy and paste the links into a new window to view them
