City Sale & Exchange London “The Salex’
Whole plate format (8.5″x6.5′) camera for wet / dry plates.

A very nice camera fixed tailboard style studio camera.
c1881-1925
No lens but there is a lens board with a 5 inch diameter hole where a large portrait lens could be fitted! (there was attached a very nice Dallmeyer 3A patent portrait lens shown in last image but this has been sold already!)
ground glass measures 8.5″x8.5″approx.
camera length when fully extended : 34 inch approx.
Comes with two holders that can accommodate glass plates either in portrait or landscape mode. One holder is for whole plate size(8.5″x6.5″). The other holder appears to be for stereo use holding two 1/4 plate size plates(3.25″x4.25″). Although for this the camera should have an insert frame that is unfortunately missing!
The camera is in overall good condition considering it’s age. There are marks & wear to the wood as expected but no major damage that I can see. At one stage a hole was made/drilled in the top of the front standard(no idea why?) but appears to have penetrated through to the bellows also which seems to have been patched up at some point. Bellows otherwise appear quite good considering their age and I can not see any large rips/holes.  I did a very basic test and could not detect any major light leaks but considering the age there may well be some small pin holes! There is a block underneath the bellows presumably to help with sagging when full extended.
This could make an ideal camera for alternative processes like wet plate collodion!
Please note this camera does NOT have a tripod bush fitting. Probably as it was originally designed for a studio stand.

Last image shows how the camera looked when the lens (Dallmeyer 3A) was attached and is for illustrational purposes only! Lens NOT included!

Sold for restoration / display / spares / repair only!

This is a large and fairly heavy camera and as it does not fold it will require a large box to send. However it will be very well packed. I will consider sending to other countries but due to the size and weight this will not be cheap but please feel free to ask for a quote to your country!

Any questions please do not hesitate to ask!
Many thanks!
