1947 Bolex H8 Standard 8mm cine camera.

Lenses not included. Tripod not included.

Standard 8 take-up reel is included.

This can carry three D-mount lens barrels on a rotating turret, which can present any of them to the film gate or to a “brilliant” ground-glass viewfinder. The ground-glass screen appears a bit coarser than in the 16mm versions, just because it’s 1/4 the size.

A “direct” viewfinder (this has a proper Bolex name – I can’t remember what it is) is mounted on the film door, and can be easily detached. This normally shows a field for a 12.5mm lens, but has masks for 25 and 36mm. An anti-parallax adjustment is available to compensate when shots are being taken at short distances. There is also an annular ring on a screw thread, but I haven’t worked out what this does.

Film speed is continuously variable from 8 to 64 f.p.s. I believe the shutter is 180 degrees, so the exposure time is exactly half 1/fps.

A full wind gives 55 seconds running time at 16 f.p.s.

R.W.O. = Reasonable Working Order. I was able to get this working well by spraying the shutter mechanism with WD40, so it basically works but could probably do with a bit of cleaning. I have cleaned the governor properly.

Weight = 6 lb. not including lenses and film.
