BENTZINPRIMAFLEX SLR BODY – First Model 1935
The Primarflex was made by Curt Bentzin in Germany. Various models weremade from 1935 to 1951. This is the very first model, identified byslotted strap lugs, no name on the front just on the side leather, &the lens flange fasted to the front with screws.
ThePrimarflex was a very advanced camera for its time a similarconcept to the much later Hasselblad. 120 size film is loaded onto afilm holder that is removed from the camera back. It takes 6x6exposures. Alternatively a slide can be removed from the camera top &plates inserted.
Thelens mount is a huge 7cm screw mount flange. Behind this the mirroris clean & bright, & focuses onto the ground glass focusingscreen. A magnifier is fitted in the hood. The folding hood has ametal front plate, & leather sides & rear. The leather is inexcellent condition with no splits. The front of the hood has afolding sports viewfinder with three frames for different focallengths.
Itis an amazing camera. All the controls are on one side, & none ofthe functions are marked! The makers name Curt Bentzin, & theserial number 25662 are engraved in the enamel. On the other sidePrimarflex is embossed in the leather. The rear panel over the filmloading is embossed Bentzin.
Onthe top of the back are three buttons, again unlabelled that open thehood, the back, & release the plate holder. One wrong press &you will let the back come open & fog the film!!!
SHUTTER PLEASE READThecloth focal plane shutter needs a service. The blinds are intact, &work a bit. If you wind the blinds to no more than travel, theshutter fires ok. If you wind it further the blinds stick & needfinger assistance to pull back down. The delayed action timer worksok. Shutter speeds are 1-1000, & you can hear the escapementcharging when you move it to the slower speeds. But I can only makethe wind method operate on the higher speeds. You need to slidethe bottom left knob for the frame counter (double headed arrow)backwards & forwards between exposures. So it definitely NEEDS ASERVICE. No returns because of this!
Thisis a very heavy camera the body alone weighs over 1.1kg. It isbeautifully constructed, & in excellent cosmetic condition. Itcomes with its original instruction book, plus my notes on what allthe controls do!!! You will not easily find another!
Isell my spare cameras as collectibles. I try & describeeverything as well as possible, but most have not been tested withfilm.
