Undoubtedly one of the finest cameras it has been my privelege to own is this superb, very substantial and beautifully engineered Watson Premier Tailboard camera, in 10 x 8 format. It is made from the best quality Honduran mahogany with brass binding and comes complete with three – very hard to source – brass bound plate holders, also a tripod, leather lens case and original leather carry cases, one for the camera and the other for the plate holders and accessories. Fitted with square-section bellows with rack and pinnion extension, rising and cross front and tilting back, with Ivorine makers plate to the front standard, and lens engraved “W Watson & Sons, 313 High Holborn, London, 8 x 6 RR, 3961”, the camera survives in an astonishing state of preservation. It makes a fine display piece on its tripod stand and with the original, matching dark slides present there is no reason why it could not be reused. When extended, it measures 20 long and 13 high. The Premier was in production from 1883 onwards and was made primarily for professional photographers.

Apologies for high shipping costs (two parcels).

Packaging: I pay a great deal of attention to packaging with a view to ensuring that items reach buyers quickly and without damage.  Most of the items I sell are antique, of high value and impossible to replace. Items are generally wrapped in multiple layers of bubblewrap and placed in strong double-wall cardboard boxes with the void filled with a 100% recycled polystyrene loosefill.  I have tried alternatives to bubblewrap but none come close in terms of the level of protection they provide.  I normally use UPS for shipping.  They are not the cheapest, but do offer a professional, fast (normally next-day) service and have proper shelving in their vans, which many of their competitors are unable to provide.

Reuse and recycling:  If at all possible, please re-use the packaging, or find someone that can.  UK buyers, if you would like to send the packaging back to me for re-use, I will happily reimburse your postage costs via PayPal.  The packaging is lightweight and can be sent at very little cost (less than 3) by Hermes, booking directly through their website.  It costs me a great deal more than this to buy new.
