Antique Victorian Large Brass & Mahogany Wooden Plate Camera c1900 spares repairs
No lens with this cameraLarge, very large and very heavy, a two person liftMade of Mahogany wood with brass fittings and metal rods and gearing in the extending mechanism. Not currently working. The shutter will move up and down if you apply pressure by hand and push it down. Both springs either side are still attached and work well. The thread and hooks thats operate the shutter mechanism need to fixed or replaced and re-attached to the bar inside, above. Only one side has small metal hook still attached the other is just a bit of string which is also possibly to short. The on/off lever the front of the camera moves a hoop inside in and out of position behind where the Lens would have been. This would either be for an additional lens or more likely for some diffusion, to soften the image. A White measuring scale on the left of camera is either very thin ivory or bone. A metal plate fixing on the top may be a later addition as it is chrome not brass and the surface of it has flaked brown off over the years. Bellows dont appear to have any holes but they do not fold up that well as you find camera back in, and the black lining inside has come away in some places. Some dust and spiders webs inside, have cleared much away but have not it cleaned it that well for fear of damaging the fragile material it is made from. A piece of beading is missing from the right side of camera. No identifying marks no name. Only SR 105 on the top front of rear section of the camera. Very large and heavy weight approx 30-40kgs 83cm long x 51cm wide x 76cm highOpening inside with shutter down/open is 12cm x 12cm approx. Opening in the back for glass frame and plate is 51cm high x 42.5cm approx Some marks and scratches to wooden surface. Metal fixings and details, all have wear, rust some bits much more than other. Needs a lot of work to get looking pristine but a nice old thing. Collection only due to size and weight Please see my feedback and other listings
