A rather nice folding brass and wood camera… with leather concertina in good condition. It has a couple of metal bits broken at the back when the hinged part is and the glass inside is cracked. There is an extra wood part that fits on the front brass lens which is a shutter.. and a fancy cog mechanism at both sides.. and a pull cord as well. INTERESTING original camera. This is a really interesting antique hardwood and brass folding camera… I am not into cameras so if you want to ask a question by all means do so but ask in a laymans form rather than camera jargon. All parts look to slide and move correctly.. the back slide in black painted wood part has two metal catches at the sides.. these are broken as this part just drops down on its own.. its suppsed to stay shut with the catches. It has a broken bit of glass inside as well. The front brass lens is a different make to the actual camera its THORNTON PICKARD 5 X 4 AMBER RAPID REFLECTINEARand it has a little slider button it which goes from 8 – 32.
The very top of the wood case near the lether handle has an inset shield shape marked with J.L. & S. OPTICIANS the retailer I would say.
It has a small rectangular wood and brass SHUTTER which fits on the front lens… it has a small pull cord which pulls down the inner shutter.. as well as cogs on both edges of the wood. …not sure if these bits are all in working order.. they do all move. The camera all folds down into a nice size. The wood frame is approx 5 and half inch square x 2 and half inch deep.. the black painted wood part adds on another 3/4 inch and it has brass knobs thumb screws stuck out here and there. The extra front shutter thing is 3 and half inch x 2 and 3/4 inch x 1 inch deep… the brass and steel cog bits stick out further. The brass screw in lens is 1 and 7/8ths inch long x 1and half inch dia.
