Please note, this is a workig camera, but has some issues. There is a knock on the lens surround. The B mode does not work correctly (it opens but does not close). The shutter speeds seems slow at the ASA set, but could be compensated for if necessary. This explains the low price.
A favourite route (back) into 35mm photography. With a clear auto mode, just choose your aperture, focus with the clear rangefinder and shoot. Perfect for photography on the move. Bodywork and cosmetic appearance: In good condition with no significant marks or scratches. Some minor marks and a serious knock to the top of the lens, smoothed out and fine, but clearly noticeable (see photos)Wind on and shutter release: Excellent mechanical orderShutter: All speeds seem correct to the ear, including the slow speeds. BUT, they seems slower than they should at given ASA settings.Light meter: Responds appropriately to changes in light. Over and Slow lights working correctly.Viewfinder: Clean and clear.Rangefinder: Clear patch and measuring accurately.Lens: Clean and clear with no scratches, fogging or fungusSelf Timer: Working correctly.Battery: A new 6v battery has been fitted so the camera is ready to go. This is much smaller than the original unavailable battery so a reliable card and foil surround has been fashioned to suit. The battery check light is working.Light seals: The main door seal has been replaced and the rear door cleaned and tidied.Please check the photos and description carefully. An item is only included if it specifically says that it is included. My grandparents had one. They took it all over the world on their vacations, and came back with loads of great slides. Everyone’s grandparents had one. Yashica sold eight million of these in various versions over 15 years.The Yashica Electro 35 is a solid metal camera. It has a big, clear viewfinder and rangefinder. It has a much clearer finder than the Nikon manual rangefinders of the 1950s that fetch astronomical prices from geriatric collectors.The Yashica Electro 35 was designed for consumers, but the great news for serious photographers is that the advanced features it had in 1966 are just what we need, and it doesn’t have any of today’s junk features that just get in the way.The Yashica Electro 35 is an aperture-priority camera. Pick your aperture, and the Yashica Electro 35 selects the shutter speed, from 1/500 up to thirty seconds or more! It has a silent electronic leaf shutter. It’s quieter and and has less vibration than any of the clumsier focal-plane shutters of Leica and Nikon rangefinders, and no flipping mirrors like every DSLR.The only gotchas are that the Electro 35 has no auto-exposure lock and it’s an almost all-auto camera. It only has three manual shutter speeds, and that’s stretching it. It is designed for a no-longer available mercury battery, however modern alkaline replacements work fine. This Yashica a solid metal camera. It is a joy to carry around compared to my hulking Nikon D3, but still has to be carried over-the-shoulder.
