I am presenting you something really rare – Infrared briefcase Camera – spying in the dark. This system was designed by the Stasi in the 1970 and is really hard to be find. One similar piece is at the Deutches Spionage Museum, from where i will give you more information about it:
” In the German Spy Museum you can find an example of the technology of infrared images well hidden in a normal briefcase – ideal for mobile espionage. This system was designed by the Operative-Technical Sector (OTS) in the 1970s. This special department of the Stasi was responsible, among other things, for the development and manufacture of technical spy devices such as microscope cameras and various containers, In the case there is a robot camera with infrared film and an infrared flash unit. When triggered, the infrared-transparent case wall flashes, the lens of the camera is hidden behind the decorative attachment of the case lock. The release mechanism is hidden in the handle of the briefcase and can be unobtrusively released with the thumb while the agent is transporting the case closed. The Robot Star 50 used was a popular spy camera in the Cold War. Thanks to its special spring contour, it is able to take 50 pictures in a row on 35 mm film in 24 x 24 mm format. The model was manufactured in West Germany by Robot Foto & Electronic GmbH based in Dsseldorf.”
     Another info found:
“The black briefcase is made of synthetic leather. Inside there is a Robot Star 50 camera with an infrared flash unit (IR flash) of the “elgapress” type, so that the case from the Ministry of State Security (MfS) for “conspiratorial photography”could be used. Such a case that served as camouflage was also called “photo mask” in Stasi jargon. The camera as well as the other components are screwed onto mounting brackets – which are attached to the inside of the case lid – or, like the flash lamp “G 22022”, are attached directly to the case lid. There is an electrical trigger next to the camera, the lens of which is behind the jewelry cap on the case lock. The electrical connection to the camera is made using a blue sync or flash light cable, the plug of which is connected to the camera. All components required for energy storage are located in the generator part of the electronic flash unit. The energy required for the flash is transmitted via a black spiral cord (power cable) – which leads out of the handle holder of the flash lamp – the plug of which is connected to the socket of the generator part. The “device” is put into operation by means of two micro pushbuttons which are installed at the bottom left and right on the narrow side of the case bottom. Two green covers labeled protect the sensitive switches from damage. On the inside of the case there is a cable up to the handle with micro button. Thus, depending on how it was worn, the photographing process could be triggered with the left or right hand .”
The unit I am selling is with serial number 141. Most of the elements are marked with the same number. The camera has separate serial number. It comes also with documentation and, what is interesting, a photo diapositives that show  tests of the unit (number 141 on the photos). Really rare addition to the set! The flash lamp is marked with 1970 and I think the whole thing is assembled around that year.      The set, according to me, has been never used on a purpose or at least is used a little. The briefcase has some cosmetic issues like scratches and unglued elements around the corners, but it is normal for a 50 years old item sitting unused somewhere. Also the brown sling bell, that holds the Elgapress unit, is lost its elasticity.      The unit is not tested by me, I really dont know how to work with it. I am selling it as for a collection item. Probably the camera can be used separately, it has both film canns and one extra (marked with Robot brand). This item is a collection masterpiece, great addition for every espionage museum.  If you need more info or photos I can send it any time as required.
