This is an Ensign 2B box camera produced by Houghton Butcher Manufacturing Company in London in the early 1920s. It was one of a range of box cameras produced by Houghtons from the early 1900s. This model is back loading and has a wire frame finder which dates it around 1923. The camera is in very good condition and appears to be in full working order. It retains its original leather covered lens cap.
Cosmetic condition (to be read in conjunction with the photos)The leather on the body of this camera is in excellent condition with just minor damage on two of the corners – see photos. The nickel plated fittings are in very good condition as is the black painted surround to the shutter. There is some paint loss on the wire frame finder. The carry handle is complete and in excellent condition. The lens cap is also in good condition, but the original cord attaching it to the camera is a little frayed.
Operational conditionThe camera is in full working order. The shutter fires on both T and I settings. The waist level viewfinders give a good picture but would benefit from a clean. The fixed focus lens appears to be clean and fungus free. The aperture slide above the shutter lever works well on all three settings. Dimensions are 9 x 12 x 15cm and the camera weighs 550g.
Overall, this are very nice little camera in good cosmetic condition and in full working order.
This camera has not been tested with film and as with any camera of this age it would probably benefit from a general mechanical service if you intend to use it. I check all lenses for fungus as best I can, but do not guarantee that any lens is entirely fungus free. I recommend having any lens professionally cleaned if you intend to use the camera. Due to the age of this camera it is being sold as seen without warranty.

This camera will be sent by Royal Mail 2nd Class service.
