Here’s an excellent antique camera outfit that includes a turn-of-the-century Conley folding camera (with its original carrying case and all of its original glass plate holders) and a folding Eastman tripod. Everything except the tripod can be stowed in the case, which measures just 10″ x 8″ x 4″ when closed. The lightweight, portable tripod (approx. 3 lb.) collapses down to just 21″ when not in use.
Condition is very good throughout. The bellows are original and light tight, and the shutter still works. Plate holders slide easily in and out of the camera back. Ground glass focusing pane in the back of the camera is original and undamaged. The nickel-plated fittings are original throughout, and they all gleam.
The camera body — originally clad in thin black leatherette — was re-done in natural wood, and the appearance is a marked improvement, though oddly leatherette clad cameras were the rage a hundred years ago. The camera opens easily, closes easily, and stays rigid when the bed is locked in place. As you can see, it looks great from any angle and even better when mounted on the tripod.
Tripod is in good condition and original throughout, including the mounting screw. Original finish on the legs, with scattered marks in the finish consistent with age and normal handling. A few dings in the tripod head, but it still locks securely onto the underside of the camera when the bolt is screwed tight. All three spikes are still present on the ends of the legs, and the original leather strap is still intact and undamaged.
