Neat stuff. Nice stuff. Hard to find stuff. Some of the best stuff on this planet (or any other). Check out all of the mechanical, technical and musical antiques I’ve got listed on eBay this week. If you can’t find anything that interests you, you either aren’t really looking, or you don’t find anything interesting anymore.
Here’s an exceptionally nice (and exceptionally large) folding Rowsell’s Patent Stereo-Graphoscope. The viewer is 21″ long — almost twice the size of most stereo graphoscopes — and appears to have been made by Anthony in New York ca. 1875-1880. Its large diffusion panel makes it suitable for all types of images — opaque and transparent, large and small.
Condition is excellent throughout. The burl walnut veneer is beautiful — almost 3-dimensional in its appearance — as is the birdseye maple bed. Lenses are original, their optical quality is excellent, and the cabinet hardware exhibits a wonderful original patina. Card holder moves easily along the focusing rail. The glass diffusion panel has been replaced, but everything else is original. The finials on the tops of the standards are finely turned bone, and they’re original, too.
Comes with the stereocard and early photograph that are pictured with it.
Measures approximately 21″ x 11″ x 19″ when open. When folded shut, it measures approximately 21″ x 11″ x 4″. Shipping weight approximately 22 lb.
