For the second time this summer, I’m heading up to Chicago, where I’ll join a few hundred other like-minded lunatics at a celebration of antique technology. The pilgrimage also involves my stopping at every vintage guitar shop within five miles of the highway to see if I can find the mint 1956 Les Paul Jr. I stupidly pawned for $325 in 1986 when I needed money to buy an MG Midget that caught fire while I was driving it home from the happy individual who’d just sold it to me. British Leyland sports cars. Built to last a lifetime if you plan on dying at age two. Right now, I’m into other things, the likes of which you’ll see if you browse the roster of no-reserve auctions in my eBay store.  It’s a great store, probably the best store of its kind on the internet, and if you take a good look, I suspect you’ll find something you can’t live without. And don’t forget, you can add me to your favorite seller list and Ebay will automatically send you updates when I put similar new auctions online.
Here’s an early and excellent Meagher wet plate camera with a Dallmeyer 6 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rapid rectilinear lens.
Lens dates to the early 1870’s, so I suspect the camera was made around the same time. Plate size is 5 1/4″ x 7 1/2″. The camera comes with its original Meagher wet plate holder.
Condition of the camera is near mint throughout.  Supple maroon leather bellows, polished mahogany body that retains its original finish, clear lens elements with no delamination and no fungus; excellent original brass hardware with a beautiful patina and no corrosion, original ground glass back with no cracks or other damage, etc. Rack and pinion focusing works, wood joints are all tight, hardware is clean, everything is original and in good order.

A nearly perfect early English wet plate camera that needs nothing except a foot or so of shelf space.

With lens mounted and tailboard down, the camera measures approximately 14″ deep x 8″ high x 10″ wide. Ground glass measures approx. 5 1/4″ x 7 1/2″.  Shipping weight, properly packed, will be about 16 lb.

That’s about it.  I will pack it carefully and properly.   Auction participants with no prior feedback history or with hidden feedback should contact me before placing a bid.  Buyer prepays and includes shipping.
